RIP.

One of the few times I preferred the English language VA over the original in DBZ. He was fantabulous at portraying the (pun not initially intended, just I'm rolling with information technology) coldness of that grapheme.

I'd heard he'd been getting better, then this is shocking. RIP

Oh damn. I heard that he was having health problems and that his blood brother stepped in to vocalization Frieza for a while as a outcome. It was then groovy to hear both of them together via Frost & Frieza during Pinnacle.

RIP.

Rest in Peace

A double lung transplant with multiple subsequent surgeries is a difficult enough status to recover from, let alone during COVID. I'm certain it was a hard fought battle though. RIP

Oh damn. I heard that he was having wellness bug and that his brother stepped in to voice Frieza for a while as a outcome. It was then neat to hear both of them together via Frost & Frieza during ToP.

RIP.

It was Daman Mills who filled in for Freeza, but you are correct that his blood brother did Frost.

RIP to Chris and condolences to all his family and friends. Though I grew upward with Linda Immature's version of Frieza, Chris was such a significant loss to the anime community.

Daman Mills filled in for him during the Tournament of Power. Though they went back and redubbed Ayres in.
All the games starting with FighterZ had Mills instead. Maybe that was too taxing.
Ayres last major performance in Dragon Ball was DBS Broly. He went out with a bang too, his Freeza was excellent in the movie.

Man this is gutting to hear. All I've heard is wonderful things most this man and he did a fantastic job as Freeza.

Add me on to the list of folk that thought he was getting better. Truly awful news.

  • #66
Fuck! I knew he was really ill but my agreement was that he got the transplant he needed and was recovering. I hateful, as has been mentioned already, he even came back to the function. Something must have went southward super fast :( Dude was a summit-tier VA. May he RIP.

Fuck, homo. Not Chris. I was hoping the worst of his condition was backside him.

There are no words to describe how big of a loss this is for the Dragon Ball community. Next to Ryusei Nakao, he was

the definitive Frieza.

RIP, you magnificent actor.

Very sorry to hear :( A bully VA and a fun panelist at cons. He will be greatly missed
Kraid
  • #73
Greg Ayers is similar, the guest of honor at i of our local cons. I've interacted with him a ton, and he'south really great. I'm feeling so sad for him.

When Chris was starting time diagnosed with leukemia, that's how my partner and I found out about our favorite con as they were doing a fundraiser. Going to that con and non being able to go the next yr, and traveling elsewhere instead were super formative things for my 30s. Fuck, human. He was way likewise young. Rest easy.

He was and then good, the vocalization alone is what elevated frieza for me.

Information technology's hard to believe they establish a dub actor who could match Ryusei Nakao's iconic and legendary operation as Freeza, simply they did. Most of all information technology's sorry knowing he was supposed to exist turning a corner on his health. I was surprised when he seemingly made a recovery that he went back to acting instead of retiring. Hopefully going back to acting didn't arouse his status.

RIP

Nailed it.

Wow I simply got back into FighterZ a twenty-four hour period ago and Frieza was ane of the guys I used…I even told my sibling how iconic this voice was in the anime and that'southward why I fifty-fifty picked him in the offset place. Literally yesterday this happened. Jesus.

Ayers was the best English Frieza and was upwards there with Ryusei Nakao's rendition. RIP Lord Frieza.

That's heartbreaking news :( I don't follow dub actors much anymore so I wasn't even familiar with the fact he was Greg Ayres' brother, my thoughts go out to all their family and friends and those that struggle in this time.

I grew up with the Chain-Smoker Granny Frieza and Falconer butt rock. I cling to my nostalgia pretty hard when information technology comes to the 90s DBZ run.

Equally much as I loved the 90s dub, Christopher Ayres was the best English Frieza. Hands down.

Mekanos
  • #89

You can tell the dub writers had a lot of fun writing flowery villainous dialogue for Ayres to evangelize.

I grew upwards with the Chain-Smoker Granny Frieza and Falconer butt stone. I cling to my nostalgia pretty hard when information technology comes to the 90s DBZ run.

Equally much every bit I loved the 90s dub, Christopher Ayres was the best English Frieza. Hands downwardly.

I came here to postal service pretty much the same thing.

All of the subsequent VAs that replaced the original dub (due east.g. Gohan'south new VA in Kai) never stuck for me, with the exception of Chris Ayres. When I hear Frieza in my mind, it's his vocalisation.

RIP

Residuum in peace... Incredible actor. His Freeza was phenomenal.

COPD fucking sucks, and this i actually hurts. Keep in mind when he was voicing his Broly and the Acme portion with Freeza he was going on, and off his ventilator betwixt takes. In that sense we're really fortune he could pull of ii more amazing takes with some of the best new Freeza material in Dragon Ball before he ultimately lost the boxing with COPD.

RIP Male monarch.

Chris was an absolutely amazing soul. I saw him every twelvemonth I went to Ohayocon from 2009 until he got sick and took leave. He always brought his massive mug with him up on opening ceremony phase. It'due south crazy I just asked if he would become back into cons when he did the Q&A on reddit not far back. He will be so missed by many.
